Carlos was on fire during the Saturday afternoon downpour, qualifying fifth, Renault’s best result since 2010. He started well enough on the softs but Verstappen got underneath him and they made contact, which let Gasly and Magnussen through. He was 10th behind the McLarens after his stop. He picked up another point when Vandoorne, the man some think Sainz will replace at McLaren, retired.
