Nico was hoping for more in Q2 when a fuel pump issue prevented him from moving on. But a perfect start saw the Hulk up to P9. He, like Sainz, would’ve finished in the top ten, had his team not brought him in when they did and not bolted on the Pirelli whites. Stuck behind Hartley, who had better tyres, he gambled during the VSC with the ultras, but by then it was too late.
