Gutierrez can point to plenty of misfortune so far this season but his bad luck in Russia was all of his own making. Outbraked himself at Turn 2 and ran into the back of Nico Hulkenberg, with Rio Haryanto’s race also being ended by the incident. Gutierrez had to pit for a new front wing before he was also hit with a 10 second time penalty which he served at his next pit stop, leaving him adrift at the back of the field.
