Massa delivered a good lap in qualifying and was shadowing team-mate Bottas throughout the first stint of the race before his opening pit stop saw him lose two places. Dealing with a water temperature problem, Massa’s pace was compromised before Williams opted to retire the car in order to protect the power unit, despite being on for a top six finish.
