Carlos Sainz - 11th place - 7.5/10
Revealed after the race his engine cut out on the grid but was able to restart it before the lights went out, and duly made progress on the first lap to gain five places. Toro Rosso opted to stay out under the second VSC for Grosjean’s retirement despite starting on softs and it promoted Sainz to sixth for a spell, but the Spaniard knew that was out of position. A switch back to softs allowed him to attack Palmer late on but the car simply didn’t have the pace to overtake the Renault as 15th and 16th on the grid had already shown.
