Actually retired after Hamilton in terms of time but had yet to overtake the stricken Mercedes on track, Gutierrez suffered a bizarre failure. Not really in the race for points after damage to his floor forced an early stop, Gutierrez was still wrestling his Haas towards the chequered flag when his left front wheel detached on the run to Turn 9 on the lap following a pit stop. The FIA later confirmed a mechanical fault meant the tyre wasn’t attached properly in the pits, costing the team €5,000.
