Fernando Alonso - 10th place, 1 point - 7/10
McLaren has not enjoyed the most competitive end to the season but Alonso’s qualifying performance raised spirits as he reached Q3 and took ninth on the grid. It was a position he would not retain, however, as he dropped behind Massa during the first round of pit stops. Behind the Mercedes-powered Force India and Williams on a track with two long straights was always going to be difficult, and despite closing a gap of 16 seconds in the final 16 laps, he couldn’t find a way past Massa.
