Qualified at the back and was put on a one-stop strategy as Sauber looked to protect its position in the constructors’ championship against Manor. Was solid enough and made the tyres last in the first stint but was struggling for pace overall, dropping back late in his long first stint. Making one stops work has become a bit of a strength for Ericsson, but the lack of performance from the car limited what was possible in Abu Dhabi after a poor qualifying.
