After a frighteningly close call with Hamilton in free-practice, the Gas Man was ecstatic to join Hartley in Q3, despite not having the same engine mode as his team mate. With a much better getaway than Brendon, Pierre tailed Grosjean just until he came in for tyres but he was behind the pair of Force Indias when he came out. He was tenth, but his tyres were blistering and Sainz on fresh rubber took the spot and the last available point.
