Esteban leaves Japan knowing that he had what he needed to score more than just two points. In Q3 he was sent out with too much fuel, believing that he would have to put in more laps in the threatening weather. Then he was given a three-place penalty for failing to reduce his speed enough after Hülkenberg’s crash in FP3. On Sunday, he proved again why he is so highly touted in closing right up to Perez at the start and finishing 1.5s behind Grosjean.
