With all resources now earmarked for the 2019 car, the R.S.18 is no longer leading the midfield battle. Even without the drizzle, Sainz didn’t feel he had the pace to reach Q3. He got a good launch off the line and was in the points until Vettel came on the scene. He came out of the pits behind Gasly and chased down the Toro Rosso for the final point on offer, and was pleased because he knew he couldn’t have possibly done any better.
