Vandoorne’s campaign will mercifully soon end. Replaced in FP1 by his successor at McLaren Lando Norris, then obliged to test parts before heading blindly into qualifying with a car he says hasn’t evolved since Barcelona, it was another row ten start for the Belgian, who hasn’t beat Alonso on a Saturday since Malaysia last year. On Sunday, he managed to stay on pace with a few of the other tail-enders to finish behind his team leader.
