An unfortunate race for Bottas was ruined by first lap contact with Hulkenberg. The Force India hit the Williams at the apex of Turn 1, with Bottas being sent momentarily airborne and receiving a puncture. The floor was damaged as a result of the contact, with Pat Symonds estimated Bottas to have lost 5% of his aerodynamic performance, preventing a fightback.
