Rosberg was somewhat fortunate to gain second in the pits, but he was sensible - whether intentionally or not - with his approach after losing out to Ricciardo at Turn 1. Running on the medium in the middle stint, Rosberg was quick enough to stick to Ricciardo and the VSC allowed him to save time when pitting, jumping the Red Bull. On equal tyres and in clear air, Rosberg cut Hamilton's advantage from over 10 seconds to 4.5s at the flag, showing he had the pace to keep his team-mate honest had his start been better.
