Hamilton's momentum continued with his third straight victory at Hockenheim while Rosberg failed to make the podium at his home race. From pole, a poor start cost the German and he dropped to fourth, before later being penalised with a five-second time penalty for forcing Verstappen off track when overtaking at the hairpin. A stopwatch error saw the penalty take much longer in the pits, and Rosberg had to settle for fourth as Hamilton moved 19 points clear at the summer break.
