Canada again saw contact between the Mercedes pair and again Rosberg failed to score heavily. Vettel took the lead at Turn 1 and Hamilton understeered into Rosberg, forcing the championship leader off track. Rosberg lost a number of positions and then saw his fightback limited to fifth place by a late puncture as Hamilton again won to cut the lead to nine points.
