In free practice, Max constantly complained about a strange noise and a lack of response from his Renault PU. Starting on the front for the first time since Mexico 2017, he was overtaken by Vettel at the start. But the Red Bull crew was on point with its strategy and he came out of the pits alongside the Ferrari and was back to second. From there, he never posed any real threat to Hamilton until traffic allowed him to shadow, if briefly, the Silver Arrow. But in the end, you couldn’t really ask for much more from the extremely talented Dutchman.
