The weekend got off to a great start with the best time in FP1. Everything looked fine until Q2, then his car lacked balance and delivered a disappointing sixth best in Q3. This conditioned his race, where he couldn’t compensate for his sub-par qualifying run. He maintained position, far from the front runners, before inheriting the lead as the last to come in or tyres. With the hyper-softs, he was soon dogging Bottas and Räikkönen but never posed a serious threat.
