Five and a half years after he last stepped on to the podium's top step, Kimi’s 21st victory moves him ahead of countryman Mika Hakkinen. It was a daring call to go with the ultra-softs in Q2 when none of the other front runners did, but it paid off at the start. Räikkönen then put the hammer down and when Hamilton had to make another stop, he never flinched against Verstappen nor did he wince when the Mercedes made it interesting. Under the Texas sun the Iceman didn’t melt, just like the good old days.
