Similar to team-mate Palmer, Magnussen ran a short first stint on supersofts and switched to softs for the middle part of the race but was hurt by the safety car due to Vettel’s failure. Received a five second time penalty for moving twice when defending from Wehrlein on the run to Turn 2 - a punishment Magnussen had no complaints about - and after losing out to his team-mate in the pit stops could only focus on putting enough distance between himself and Marcus Ericsson behind to ensure he retained his position at the flag.
