Carlos Sainz - 8th place, 4 points - 8/10

Sainz is making a habit of scoring points from lowly grid positions and celebrated his new Toro Rosso deal with another four to add to his total. From 15th on the grid, an excellent first lap set up the race for Sainz as he finished the opening lap in 10th. Was robust in a number of fights - overly so when he didn’t see which side Sergio Perez was attacking into Turn 3 and the pair touched at high speed - but a poorly timed second stop under the safety car left him 17th on the road. Climbed through the field impressively in the second half of the race, with only Felipe Nasr and the two Williams drivers pitting ahead of him. Moved level with team-mate Daniil Kvyat on 22 points in the standings despite 15 of Kvyat’s coming from his podium for Red Bull in China.
