F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2019 Spanish GP

Carlos Sainz (P8, 4 pts): 8/10
Carlos Sainz was obviously disappointed not to make it through to the final round of qualifying on Saturday, not to mention being out-qualified by his rookie team mate at his home Grand Prix. But then it hadn't been looking to be a promising weekend for McLaren as a whole up to that point. However, when it came to the race itself, Sainz gamely dug in after gaining a place at the start and ran consistently in 11th. He then capitalised on a flurry of safety car pit stops to leap-frog Alexander Albon for a points place, and later consolidated this by picking up further places from Daniil Kvyat and Romain Grosjean following the restart. It all made for an unexpectedly - but well-deserved - good day at the races for Spain's local hero.
