F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2019 Australian GP

Sebastian Vettel (GER) Ferrari SF90 and Charles Leclerc (MON) Ferrari SF90 at the start of the race.

Charles Leclerc (P5, 10 pts): 7/10
All eyes this weekend were on new Ferrari signing Charles Leclerc: could the 21-year-old Monegasque driver live up to the Tifosi's expectations? Yes and no, to be honest. Part of the problem was that Ferrari itself didn't deliver the sort of superior performance that everyone had been expecting after pre-season testing, so fifth place on the grid and at the line wasn't really what fans had been hoping for. Leclerc did put a little life into the start of the race when he went snapping at the heels of Red Bull's Max Verstappen and his own team mate Sebastian Vettel, but he was soon firmly put in his place and back in his box by the grown-ups. The middle part of his race sagged somewhat and he dropped away from Vettel, but then an intriguing finish saw him close the gap and threaten to challenge for fourth - only to be told by the Ferrari pit wall that this would not be a good idea, thank you very much. While understandable, it would be a shame if the team is already thinking of Leclerc as a second driver. Is there a "Sebastian, Charles is faster than you!" radio message looming somewhere down the line in 2019?
