Lance Stroll (P9, 2 pts): 9/10
Many fans had written off Lance Stroll's prospects long before the first race of the season. They fully expected the Canadian to be comprehensively shown up by his talented team mate Sergio Perez at the newly-reconstituted Racing Point squad. But instead it was Stroll who was ahead on Friday's timesheets. And even though he wasn't able to sustain the advantage on Saturday, when it came to the Australian Grand Prix itself, Stroll was - whisper it softly - a bit of a star. He made up a string of places at the start and then progressed all the way to sixth place; even after the pit stops were done he was able to stay in the points, finishing in a very creditable ninth while Perez was labouring to a mere 13th place. If the race was supposed to prove once and for all that Stroll doesn't deserve to be in F1, then - unfortunately for the doubters - it actually ended up proving precisely the opposite.
