Nico Hulkenberg (P9, 2 pts): 8/10
Things may be looking increasingly gloomy for Nico Hulkenberg when it comes to his career prospects in 2020, but he's certainly doing everything he can to attract the attention of prospective employers. He was ahead of his Renault team mate throughout practice in Singapore, and both men successfully got through to the final round of qualifying on Saturday afternoon. Daniel Ricciardo narrowly pipped Hulkenberg in the final run, only to be excluded from qualifying for an technical breach involving the R.S.19's MGU-K leaving Hulkenberg to fly the team's colours in the race. Unfortunately he was involved in a first lap fracas with Carlos Sainz that dropped him to the back after an urgent pit stop, and the rest of the afternoon descended into damage limitation. But what a success he made of it! Switching to hard tyres helped him to claw his way back into the top ten by the time he made his 'proper' pit stop on lap 36, after which a series of safety car restarts helped him gain further positions in the final 20 laps and come away with a handy couple of points after a gruelling - but fun - day at the races.
