Sebastian Vettel (P1, 25 pts): 9/10
Yes, you're reading that right. Singapore Grand Prix winner Sebastian Vettel is not our choice of driver of the weekend, even if he did win the official F1 post-race poll. For one thing, our ratings take account of the whole weekend and Vettel simply wasn't a match for his Ferrari team mate on Saturday. And when it came to the race itself, Vettel arguably only won it because he was less capable of making his opening set of soft compound tyres last as long as the team needed him to, necessitating a very early pit stop. Even Vettel acknowledged that he didn't know if he would be able to survive the remaining 42 laps on the hard compound to make it all the way to the finish. But he did, and he certainly gets full marks from us for that. We certainly have no complaints about the way the four-time champ handled the second half of the race, which involved managing multiple safety car restarts with Leclerc lurking behind ready to take advantage of any openings should they arise. Vettel made sure they didn't, and after his terrible debacle two weeks ago in Monza this drive thoroughly rehabilitated his reputation and showed that there's still a lot of life left in the old yet. And honestly, we couldn't be happier for him.
