Carlos Sainz (P12): 7.5/10
Carlos Sainz had a perfect record of finishing seventh in all three practice sessions in Singapore, and so it was no surprise when he made it through to the final top ten pole shoot-out round of qualifying - and duly picked up seventh place on the grid as well. It was all looking f=good for the race, but it all went horrible wrong right at the start when Nico Hulkenberg ran into the back of the McLaren in turn 5. Sainz limped back to pit lane for repairs, but it took over a minute before he was back out on track by which time he was a lap down. The safety car at least allowed him to get back on the lead lap for the final stages of the race and over the remaining 20 laps he picked up seven places to finish surprisingly close to the top ten in the circumstances. It showed that the pace was there, but for Sainz this weekend would inevitably be a case of 'what if?' as he ended his third race in a row without any points.
