On this day in 1955, the great Juan Manuel Fangio vanquished his rivals and the scorching temperatures to triumph in his home Grand Prix in Buenos Aires with Mercedes.
Fangio qualified third for an incredibly taxing race that left the then two-time F1 world champion and countryman Roberto Mieres as the only two drivers able to complete the three-and-a-half-hour race without handing their car to another driver!
Later on, Fangio would add another trio of wins - in Belgium, the Netherlands and in Italy - to make it title #3 at the end of the season.
