Daniel Ricciardo (P12): 5.5/10
Another lacklustre weekend for Daniel Ricciardo, on a weekend when his team mate Yuki Tsunoda succeeded in adding another four points to the RB tally. It's not that anything went badly wrong for the Australian, who won here in 2018, so much as nothing ever sparking into life. He was in the top ten in first practice on Friday but then seemed to hit reverse over FP2 and FP3, before steadying the ship and making it through to the second round of qualifying on Saturday. But Tsunoda went one better and made the final cut for Q3, and that was pretty much the deciding factor of the weekend. Starting from 12th Ricciardo lost out to Fernando Alonso at the start but regained a place when Lance Stroll burst his tyre on the barriers. He ended up reaching the line in the same position that he'd started.
Fernando Alonso (P11): 6/10
After last week's qualifying disaster in Imola, the last thing that Fernando Alonso was another poor Saturday compromising his race chances, but that's exactly what happened when he failed to make the first cut. He gained a couple of places on the grid thanks to Haas being thrown out of results of qualifying, and medium tyres helped him to pick up two places at the restart with passes on Logan Sargeant and Daniel Ricciardo. He settled in behind his Aston Martin team mate Lance Stroll and was able to provide a strategic assist to the team by backing up the cars behind to give Stroll clear track space to come back out into after a late pit stop. Ultimately it didn't work out but that was through no fault of Alonso who was held back in the "tortuous" final laps by having to nurse his medium tyres to the chequered flag meaning he just missed out on points.
