Oscar Piastri, McLaren (SP2, P8, 11 pts): 7/10
McLaren seemed at the top of their game on Friday with Oscar Piastri using an extra set of new tyres to pip team mate Lando Norris to pole. It looked a bit pre-planned to be honest, a way of giving the Australian a moment in the sun before he was asked to give up the lead in the closing laps of the sprint race to his team mate in the interests of Norris' title campaign. On Sunday morning Norris showed what the MCL38 could do in the wet and dashed to pole, but Piastri - with less experience of such conditions in F1 - faltered in the last round of qualifying. He started the Grand Prix from P8 from which he never really recovered, especially when saddled with a ten second penalty for tipping fellow Antipodean Liam Lawson into a spin.
Yuki Tsunoda, RB (SP15, P7, 6 pts): 8/10
It wasn't a great start for Yuki Tsunoda on Friday as he missed the first cut in sprint qualifying, which left him far too much work to do on Saturday to get into the points. But things certainly turned around on Sunday morning when he flew into the final round of wet qualifying and duly picked up third place on the grid for the Grand Prix in the afternoon. He'd just been overtaken by Esteban Ocon when the yellow flags came out on lap 28, and he joined George Russell and Lando Norris in pitting. When the race was red flagged shortly after for Franco Colapinto's accident it left Tsunoda stuck in seventh with no opportunity to restore his fortunes. Unfortunate, but it doesn't detract from Tsunoda's ranking in Brazil as far as we're concerned.
