Red Bull's double disgrace
Renault appears to have solved its reliability issues with all four cars finishing in the points albeit with the junior drivers surprisingly leading home the seniors. In spite of their rookie drivers, Toro Rosso outperformed its sister team which confirms the view I expressed after Melbourne, when I said that the lack of performance of the Milton Keynes machines cannot be explained solely by the Renault engine.
Daniel Ricciardo, who had a front wing issue early on, and Daniil Kvyat both suffered from overheating brake problems. The team changed their disc supplier during the winter, but kept caliper manufacturer Brembo. I'm sure Christian Horner wasn't pleased to see Sebastian Vettel lap both Red Bull drivers...
At just 17 years and 180 days, Max Verstappen became the youngest driver in the history of F1 to score points, although the scoring system isn't comparable to what it was years ago. And he did it at the wheel of a competitive car which instills confidence to its rookie drivers, so hats off to designer James Key ! A mention also goes out to Carlos Sainz Jr. who was the only driver apart from Vettel to go for a two-stop strategy and who, along with Raïkkonen, drove a fantastic race which saw him go from P15 to P8 after a great start.
