Andrea de Cesaris was born on this day in 1959. In an F1 career which spanned 15 years and 208 Grand Prix, the Roman only managed five podiums but not a single win.
Cesar came close though, almost conquering the Principality of Monaco in 1982. His Alfa was second on the penultimate lap behind Didier Pironi when Andrea was gifted the lead when the electronics failed on the Frenchman's Ferrari. Alas, his Alfa's V12 engine went thirsty and ran out of fuel with the checkered flag in sight!
