Jim Clark won the Indy 500 in 1965, a victory which enticed fellow-Scot Jackie Stewart to try his hand at racing at the Brickyard the following year.
Stewart-the-rookie was leading the 1966 Indianapolis 500 by over a lap in John Mecom's Lola T90-Ford when an engine failure put him out of the race with just ten laps remaining. Fellow first-time starter Graham Hill picked up the lead and went on to drink the winner's milk.
Despite parking the car, Stewart was voted the rookie of the year over Hill.
