Shooting for the moon, before landing among the stars

Of the five young men who were shooting for the moon back in 2009, three are racing among the stars today.

Carlos Sainz Jr, Brendon Hartley, Jean-Eric Vergne, Daniil Kvyat et Daniel Ricciardo all reached the pinnacle of motorsport but enjoyed various fortunes.

Vergne and Hartley departed F1 while Kvyat left and came back. Ricciardo is a seven-time Grand Prix winner while Sainz is spearheading McLaren's efforts to return to the front of the grid.

It was a proud-looking group of juniors, and one which Red Bull never really replaced, leaving a lull in the energy drink company's talent pool. And in case you're wondering, Max Verstappen was a 12-year-old fierce karter at the time this picture was taken, leap-frogging since his fellow past and present bulls.
