Replacing Alain Prost at the last minute for the 1991 Australian Grand Prix was never going to be an easy task. Ferrari had fired the ‘Professor’ a few days earlier for comparing his 643 to a truck, and given Gianni Morbidelli a late call up.
The Italian did manage to claim the final point on offer by finishing sixth in a rain-shortened race. However, that would not be enough to land a full-time seat at Maranello the following year, with Morbidelli eventually losing out to fellow countryman Ivan Capelli.
