Sauber would surely prefer more high-altitude venues on the calendar, where their 2016 Ferrari power would be at a smaller disadvantage. In the all-important team mate battle, Werhlein didn’t have the measure of Ericsson in qualifying, but his different tyre strategy got him to the end, and for once the Swiss squad showed some spirit.
