F1i's Driver Ratings for the 2020 Austrian GP

Daniil Kvyat (P12, DNF): 6.5/10
After a terrible start to the weekend with a wretched time in FP1, Daniil Kvyat managed to regroup and gradually move forward in the remaining sessions, although it was always clear that 13th on the grid was about the best that the AlphaTauri could hope for. He lost places at the start to Kevin Magnussen and Antonio Giovinazzi, but held his nerve and by the mid-point of the race he was running in ninth and seemingly set to pick up points for the newly-christened squad. He was among the drivers to pit under a late safety car for a new set of soft compound tyres to give him an advantage over those on slower, older compound, but he then tangled with Esteban Ocon which left the AlphaTauri morally wounded with a puncture, front wing damage and broken suspension which forced him to manoeuvre the AT01 behind the barriers in pursuit of a safe place to park just two laps shy of the finish.

Nicholas Latifi (P11): 6/10
Thanks to all the incidents and attrition going on around him, Williams rookie Nicholas Latifi came very close to picking up a championship point on his very first F1 outing. That would have been quite something, especially given his unfortunate accident in final practice that kept the socially distancing Williams mechanics hard at work over lunch on Saturday. Inevitably the Canadian was still getting used to his new role and was always going to be starting from the very back of the grid for the race, and he remained there for the first 20 laps until Roman Grosjean joined him there following a spin. More surprising for Latifi was finding himself sparring with former world champion Kimi Raikkonen for a spell, and then on lap 31 he was running only just behind Sebastian Vettel. Heady heights indeed for the newcomer! Inevitably in the end he finished in last place, but such was the attrition rate in the race this proved to be a very creditable 11th. Imagine the reaction if it has been one place further forward!
