Valtteri Bottas, Sauber (P16): 6/10
Valtteri Bottas is keeping his hopes alive of extending his stay in F1, but the truth is that his tenure as Sauber is doing very little for him. A consistent build-up in practice paid off with a second round appearance in qualifying and 12th place on the grid for the race. While he lost out to Alex Albon at the start he had a solid first stint, but then dropped behind Daniel Ricciardo during the first round of pit stops. The second stop saw him fall further behind Logan Sargeant, but Bottas was able to pass the Williams with ten laps to go and finish in P16. Without a safety car or red flag to help out, this was probably about the best the C44 had in it this week to be honest.
Kevin Magnussen, Haas (P15): 6.5/10
Kevin Magnussen arrived in Hungary with the word already out that he would be leaving Haas at the end of the season. Perhaps that explains why he was unusually critical of the team's performance after the race. He did well to survive the rain-hit first round of qualifying to make it to Q2 and then had a great start in the race on soft tyres to jump into the top ten, but after that the air leaked out of his afternoon like a slow puncture. The choice of starter compound dictated an early first stop which dropped him behind Alex Albon, and he spent much of the afternoon staring at the Williams' rear wing with Esteban Ocon (and latterly Valtteri Bottas) lurking in his rear view mirrors.
