'Time to run up the hill, dear Jacky'

It's the traditional Goodwood Festival of Speed weekend, with engines and machines of all sorts, and drivers past and present invading the beautiful grounds of Goodwood House going for a run up the famous hill in fury in a summer celebration of motorsport.

This year's theme, ‘The innovators – masterminds of motorsport’ celebrates perhaps motorsport's most powerful and enduring defining feature.

And not just technical advances: 'innovation' also includes the drivers who pushed the sport to the next level, like Sir Jackie Stewart whose tireless efforts to improve safety in Formula 1 during his active years as a Grand Prix driver continue to reverberate through the racing world today.

The great Scot is once again taking fans on a trip down memory lane this weekend, as is his fellow motorsport legend Jacky Ickx.

The two famous veterans met up on Friday to talk shop - or was it timepieces? - but when the time came for the pair to run up the hill they were still professional to the core, punctually parting ways to head off for their respective rides and enthrall the fans.
