Mika Häkkinen owed David Coulthard a debt of gratitude at the end of the 1998 Australian Grand Prix. The reason ? A radio communications mix-up earlier in the race between McLaren and its Finnish driver, who was leading at that point, had enticed the latter to suddenly appear in the pitlane. He subsequently lost first place, but Coulthard was ordered to move over a few laps from the end and allow Häkkinen to win. The race also marked tyre supplier Bridgestone's first victory in F1.
