Michael Schumacher’s final win for Ferrari came at the 2006 Chinese Grand Prix amid a fierce title battle with Renault’s Fernando Alonso. Earlier that year, the Red Baron had trailed the Spaniard by as many as 25 points but managed to fight back and sat only a couple of points behind the 2005 world champion ahead of the Shanghai event. Making the most of mixed weather conditions, Schumi drove a stellar race in China to draw level on points with Alonso, taking the lead in the championship thanks to a higher number of wins at the time. But the German legend would eventually fall tantalisingly close to a record eighth crown over the last two races of the season after experiencing reliability issues, including a rare engine failure while leading at Suzuka.
