Between the lines at the Italian Grand Prix

Motor Racing - Formula One World Championship - Italian Grand Prix - Preparation Day - Monza, Italy

Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Marcus Ericsson

The Question: This is last race in Europe this season. What are your thoughts about the opportunity to add extra races in Europe, especially northern Europe – to do Riga Grand Prix in Latvia. How would you feel about it?

What Nico said:

NR: I’ve heard great things about Riga, I’ve got a good friend from there also so that would be fantastic but I don’t know. Races in Europe are great, wherever they are to be honest, so it’s always good to have more of those.

What they might have meant to say:

NR: I’ve heard great things about Riga, I’ve got a good friend from there also so that would be fantastic but I don’t know.

SV: Thank God for urbane, multi-cultural, Nico Rosberg, always ready with a solid get-out to any madcap question going. Phew, dodged a bullet there.

ME: Which one is Riga? Is it the one full of British stag parties wearing the fake boobies and being sick?

NR: Riga was European Capital of Culture in 2014, a fascinating, historic city famed for its wooden buildings, medieval old town and art nouveau architecture. Founded in 1201 as a base for crusading German knights, it thrived for three centuries as one of the Baltic ports of the Hanseatic League. The city then became part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and then the Swedish and Russian empires before Latvia declared independence in 1990.

SV: Bloody know all.
