Tech F1i: How Formula 1 teams customized their Halo

BI-PLANE AT SAUBER, TRIPLE TIER AT FORCE INDIA AND RENAULT…

The tri-plane deflector is found at Force India and Renault, but without the visible extensions seen on the McLaren.

The Sauber is equipped with a deflector with two planes, which "melts" into the frame (see the blue arrow). The fairing of the central pillar is particularly thick.

Note that from a structural point of view, the pylon is one of the five elements that make up the Halo. Two quarter-circle pieces constitute the main arch. Its two ends each have an element to attach the structure to the cockpit. Finally, a central pillar completes the whole. These five elements are welded together in a sealed "glove box" enclosure to prevent foreign body incursion.
