Charles Leclerc (Pole, P4, 12 pts): 8.5/10
You would have got great odds for Charles Leclerc taking a single pole position in 2021, let alone two. Once again he was helped by a late red flag at the end of qualifying before anyone got a final chance to unseat him, but at least this time - unlike Monaco - he wasn't the cause of it. Most of all he escaped the session unscathed and was able to take up his grid position for the start of the race, although it was soon clear that the Ferrari simply didn't have the straight line speed required to keep Lewis Hamilton at bay. He lost the lead on lap 2 and then succumbed to Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez in quick succession on laps 6 and 7 after which the only rational response was to pit in the hopes that a change to the hard compound tyres would improve his situation. He came back out in seventh place behind Pierre Gasly where he remained stuck all the way to the red flag. He briefly got the better of Gasly at the restart but then lost out to the AlphaTauri's counterattack, so that by the chequered flag he was just off the podium in fourth. All things considered, a fair reflection of Ferrari's form this weekend and by no means a bad result.
Pierre Gasly (P3, 15 pts): 9/10
After finishing in the top six in both of Friday's practice session, Pierre Gasly caused a stir by topping final practice on Saturday morning by a whopping 0.344s from Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton. Qualifying proved that this was no fluke, and he duly lined up on the second row of the grid alongside Max Verstappen for the start of the race on Sunday. Unfortunately he wasn't able to do anything to prevent Perez from getting ahead of him at the start, but after the pit stops he was able to settle into fifth place, albeit stuck behind Lance Stroll running a long first stint on the hard compound. That problem went away in dramatic fashion when Stroll's tyre failed on lap 29, but at the restart Gasly lost out to a flying Sebastian Vettel in the second Aston Martin. Gasly spent the rest of the afternoon battling with a power unit which saw him briefly lose out to Charles Leclerc at the final restart, but the Frenchman refused to concede and earned the podium place back in time for the chequered flag.
