Charles Leclerc (P8, 2 pts): 7/10
Charles Leclerc claimed his maiden Formula 1 race victory at Spa-Francorchamps two years ago, but a lot has changed since then. Despite finishing fourth fastest in opening practice this weekend, Leclerc never looked entirely comfortable in the SF21 and was 18th fastest in the afternoon after spinning out at turn 6, crumpling the company car in the process. That put him on the back foot on Saturday where he was 4.446s off the pace in final practice, and things barely got any better when both he and Sainz missed the cut at the end of Q2 leaving them out of the battle for pole position. He did rise up the order thanks to an accident for Sergio Perez and grid penalties for both Valtteri Bottas and Lando Norris which put him up to eighth for the restart, but a lack of green flag laps meant there was no more progress to be made. In the circumstances, picking up a couple of points this weekend was probably as much as the Monegasque could have hoped for anyway.
Esteban Ocon (P7, 3 pts): 7.5/10
Fresh from taking his first career F1 win with victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix before the summer shutdown, Esteban Ocon bounced into Spa full of energy and optimism - but the weather soon brought him back down to earth. However it was not exactly with a hard bump, as he ran through all three practice sessions keeping out of trouble and finishing consistently in the top ten. Sure enough he made it through to the final round of qualifying on Saturday afternoon while his team mate Fernando Alonso was frustrated to miss the cut. Although he was slowest of those taking part in Q3, he ended up in seventh place on the grid thanks to Sergio Perez spinning out on his way to the grid and Valtteri Bottas serving a five place penalty left over from Hungary. And that of course is where he remained when it proved impossible to get the race started on Sunday: "The conditions were really tough out there, especially the lack of visibility," he said. "Credit to the FIA and Michael Masi for trying their best and making the right call in the end."
