CASCADE OF TWEAKS

Williams tweaked the front wing it had introduced at the Bahrain Grand Prix earlier this year. While the main plane and flaps remained unchanged, a few changes were made to the aero elements.

The ‘r’ cascade now bends outwards where it used to be straight (see yellow arrows), while the main cascade has gained an extra winglet (see red arrows). The ‘r’ cascade still aims at pushing the airflow ahead of the wheel to the outside edge of the tyre. However, the element does not feature on all front wings and several teams – McLaren, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Renault, among others – have actually replaced it with an extra element added to the main cascade.

It’s also worth noticing that the winglet featuring on the endplate of the Williams front wing has been redesigned (see blue arrows).
