Less horsepower for the Prancing Horse

Ferrari spent only three tokens to develop its ICE ahead of Monza. As explained by Renault Sport F1 director of operations Remi Taffin, performance can primarily be found in the internal combustion engine since the latter component is involved at the start of the efficiency cycle.

Having already consumed three tokens before last June’s Canadian Grand Prix, Ferrari power unit director Mattia Binotto and his team would then still have four tokens to use by the end of the current campaign.

After its Monza spending spree, Mercedes no longer has any, while Renault’s 12-token allocation remains untapped. The French manufacturer could actually follow in Brackley’s footsteps and use them all in one go for a major upgrade that could be introduced during next month’s US Grand Prix. Out of the nine tokens Honda had at the start of 2015, the Japanese constructor has already spent two at Montreal and another three at Spa, with very little to show for it.
