Analysis: Alonso dominant
Sad to say, this is the most mismatched driver line-up on the grid. In one respect it's surely no surprise that Fernando Alonso - a double former world champion hailed as one of the best drivers of his generation - should be firmly on top at McLaren. But it's nonetheless still disappointing to see 2015 GP2 champion Stoffel Vandoorne make such little impact on the state of affairs. A total lock-out in qualifying, Vandoorne's slightly better race statistics came about largely as a result of Alonso's reliability issues and enforced retirements. While the veteran has driven out of his skin at times to overcome the limitations of the equipment he's been given, the youngster simply seems overwhelmed by it all.
