Analysis: Gasly on top
One of the more straightforward match-ups to adjudicate on: Pierre Gasly is on top at Toro Rosso in just about every notable respect. His qualifying form is particularly strong compared with that of Brendon Hartley, and the Frenchman has also recorded the team's stand-out result of the season with his fourth place finish in Bahrain. That said, points have been hard to find for both drivers in 2018 and will only get harder after the summer shutdown as the team racks up more grid penalties for ongoing upgrades to its Honda power units. Even so, Gasly has certainly done enough to ensure he has a race seat next year - he's even been linked with a possible promotion to the Red Bull team to replace Daniel Ricciardo - while Hartley's been something of a no-show for much of the season and is probably looking forward to his imminent return to sportscars.
