Vandoorne's new electric life: 'FE is like going back to basics'

F1 and FE, can we reasonably compare the two series ?

"I don't think you can and I don't think either series are trying to compare with each other. It’s probably more of a fan thing where they try to compare both and some say ‘you will never never be as good as Formula one’ or whatever but, to be honest, Formula E has been for many years doing their own thing.

"They're creating their own kind of unique championship which is very different to any form of racing with the « attack mode » we have, the « fan boost » which are all different aspects but it adds to the show in the end. And that's what we are putting together.

"I think if you look at the first four races of the season, we had four different winners and very exciting races as well. Maybe the cars are, on pure pace, not as fast as F1 but it's a very different way of racing.

Talking about those gimmicks that you mentioned : « Fan boost » and « Attack mode ». How did you approach those new parameters as a racer?

"It's part of the game so it's not a big deal to. It just adds to the show and gives a little bit of unpredictability. I think this is more of a FE thing because they are unique in their own way.

"They are creating or trying a lot of different things and, even if it doesn't work out, they are open to try different other things to make the show better or look more ‘futuristic’ let's say.

"The cars look very futuristic and, obviously, it has attracted a lot of interest.
